Selmun Tower overlooking the road leading to Mellieħa was built in the early 18th century by the Monte di Redenzione, a society that was originally set up to aquire funds for freeing of Christian slaves. The tower was rented out to the knights as a place in which to relax and hunt wild rabbits that were rather common in the surroundings.

The tower is similar in design to the Verdala Tower in Buskett although the two were built almost a century apart. Although the tower gives the impression of being fortified, thus heavily defended, it was actually constructed as a residence with no defensive features.

The tower has the escutcheon of the Monte di Redenzione above the central balcony doorway. The balcony is a continuous one and surrounds the whole building.

Mepa scheduled the Selmun Tower as a Grade 1 national monument as per Government Notice 22 dated January 10.
