The Water Services Corporation recently hosted an international seminar for members of the @qua network. This network aims to create a shared vision on ICT for water efficiency at EU level.
These discussions will help provide a roadmap for the consolidation of existing good practices and the development of innovative ICT solutions.
The expected impact of the @qua network is greater collaboration at EU level, in defining, sharing and validating the standards and architecture for ICT solutions. This will help facilitate the cross-fertilisation of ideas and proposals to improve the efficiency of water networks.
Some of the topics discussed ranged from the operation of drinking water plants, wastewater and storm water management, laboratories and quality control, real-time network management, as well as the management of field interventions and plant maintenance.
Increased efficiency ultimately means that an expensive resource is used more wisely and that consumers will not have to support inefficient practices. The Water Services Corporation is at the forefront in Europe in leakage control.
This was highlighted by WSC representative Stephen Galea St John who gave a detailed analysis of the efforts carried out by the corporation over the years to trace and repair leaks in the country’s infrastructure.
