Having Maltese history at heart, l beat the heat and headed to Gozo to visit the newly-restored Citadel.
No other adjective can describe it but awesome. The imposing cathedral, museums and the unused water reservoirs, turned into an interactive visitors’ centre, glorify the Citadel.
The walkways leading to the old ruins are impressive, complemented with breathtaking views. The ditch, which has been turned into an oasis of greenery, is a place of serenity.
By all means, the Citadel deserves World Heritage status.
The paving throughout is beautiful but it is very slippery, being a hilly place, and some nasty accident is bound to happen, especially in winter. To my distress, on exiting, l noticed oil stains on the paving.
