Eight per cent of Maltese aged 12 and over do some form of voluntary work.
The largest share of volunteers (37 per cent) are in the 25-47 age bracket, followed by those aged 50-64 (30 per cent), according to the Statistics on Income and Living Conditions.
About 41 per cent of those volunteering had been doing the unpaid work for more than 10 years. Nearly half the volunteers said they felt it was their moral duty to do such work.
