Park: QPR midfielder Ji-Sung Park is set to retire from football at the end of next season, according to his father. The 32-year-old has struggled since signing from Man. United last summer and is ready to call an end to his career. His father Sung-jong Park said: “Nobody knows the future but I think Ji-Sung has made his mind up to retire. He thinks he’s played enough.”
Australia: Australia were forced to come from two goals down to keep their bid to reach a third successive World Cup finals on track with a 2-2 draw against Oman in an Asian qualifier yesterday. The visitors stunned the hosts by taking a 1-0 lead through Abdul Aziz Mubarak and doubling it courtesy of a Mile Jedinak own goal. Tim Cahill cut the deficit on 51 minutes, however, and midfielder Brett Holman equalised on 85 minutes.
Protest: FIFA has rejected a bid by Costa Rica to have their World Cup qualifier with USA replayed after going down 1-0 in a game played in heavy snow. Costa Rica lodged a complaint about the match in Denver but FIFA said the match stands.
Govou: Evian forward Sidney Govou refuses to be consumed by concern over his future despite having to undergo knee surgery. The former France international suffered a knee injury during his side’s victory at Lille on March 16. Govou said: “I am not very anxious. This is not the end of the world. I will walk again, run again, and if it works well, will play football again.”
Neville SNR: The father and agent of former England footballers Gary and Phil Neville has been arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, police sources confirmed yesterday. Neville Neville, 63, was questioned on Sunday by detectives from Greater Manchester Police investigating an alleged sexual assault in Bury on Saturday. He has since been bailed pending further inquiries.
