Dnipro: Last season’s Europa League runners-up Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk were among three teams banned from European competition for one season by UEFA yesterday for breaching financial regulations. Azeri club Inter Baku and Romania’s Targu Mures were also given one-season suspensions. UEFA said the bans would apply to the next season in which the clubs qualify for European competition and would be in force for the next three campaigns.

Biting ban: Leeds United striker Souleymane Doukara has been banned for eight matches for biting an opponent. The 24-year-old forward was found guilty of biting Fulham defender Fernando Amorebieta in their 1-1 draw on Feb. 23. Amorebieta was booked for his reaction to the bite.

Mathieu: Barcelona and France defender Jeremy Mathieu is set to be sidelined for up to two months after undergoing knee surgery, leaving his Euro 2016 hopes in serious doubt. Mathieu suffered a torn meniscus during France’s friendly win over Russia on Tuesday and went under the knife yesterday.

Schaaf: Hannover have confirmed that Thomas Schaaf will not be their coach next season if he is unable to save the club from relegation. Schaaf was appointed as a replacement for Michael Frontzeck during the winter break, but the Reds have won one and lost all their other games under his guidance. He signed a contract until 2017, but it has been confirmed that it will only be valid if he is able to keep the club in the Bundesliga.
