MLS: MLS Eastern Conference pace-setters Toronto FC and the Chicago Fire both won on Saturday night to maintain their momentum. Jozy Altidore scored Toronto’s opener in a 2-0 win over DC United, rounded off by Jordan Hamilton’s late header. The Fire, meanwhile, were 2-1 winners against the New England Revolution with goals from Nemanja Nikolic and Luis Solignac. Antonio Mlinar Delamea’s header was not enough to prevent the Revs’ first home defeat of 2017.
China: Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou R&F were both reduced to 10 men after a fight broke out in their 1-1 draw yesterday that left Guangzhou Evergrande four points clear at the top of the Chinese Super League. Both sides were a man down for the entire second half after Guangzhou’s Li Tixiang and Shanghai’s Fu Huan were sent off after a brawl following second-placed SIPG’s equaliser just before the break. Play was disrupted for more than seven minutes as Chen Zhizhao pushed over SIPG’s former Chelsea playmaker Oscar after the Brazilian set up compatriot Hulk to score Shanghai’s equaliser.
Bozovic: Former Red Star Belgrade coach Miodrag Bozovic has joined Russian top-flight side Arsenal Tula, his new club said yesterday. Bozovic, 48, was sacked by 1991 European Cup winners Red Star in May following a shock defeat to unfancied Vozdovac that saw them relinquish their lead at the top of the Serbian championship to bitter city foes and eventual champions Partizan Belgrade. Bozovic has already worked with a number of Russian clubs including Dynamo Moscow, Lokomotiv Moscow and Rostov.
