The progressive left would have us believe the ‘wage gap’ is still an issue in western society despite all evidence to the contrary. This stems from the difference in meaning between wages and earnings. The only way you can create the gender pay gap is if you take broad brush figures across all industries without accounting for a series of very important variables.

This myth is predicated on the misinterpretation of standard pay statistics which do not account for overtime hours worked, experience, location, degree earned or even the field someone is working in. Adding to this is the fact that it is illegal to pay a man more than a woman for the same work. Women earn less on average because men and women make different life choices, because, believe it or not, men and women are different.

Facts do not support the grievance culture narrative which is why feminist arguments are riddled with anecdotes and void of evidence.

When economic arguments are not representative of the mainstream narrative, feminists switch to the social argument. Not only does this argument completely disregard the choices women make as being part of their own volition but it is also based on sketchy social sciences that do not hold up to the most basic of academic scrutiny.

Moreover, if one believes that women are held back from stem subjects, then one would have to explain why they aren’t held back in veterinary science, biology and health-related fields where women dominate completely.

There is this unfounded belief that there should be some kind of gender parity in all sectors, which, ironically, denies any agency women have just because they aren’t making the choices feminists would like them to.

This kind of regressive reasoning promotes equality of outcome over equality of opportunity, which inevitably places diversity over merit, which is contrary to the fundamental principles of academic inquiry.

In conclusion, the gap is primarily due to life choices men and women make and not because of gender discrimination as politically correct, agenda driven, social justice warriors would have us believe.
