Frank Testa (picture) has been appointed president of Sliema Aquatic Sports Club after incumbent Michael Gatt decided not to stand for re-election, the club said in a statement.
Dr Testa, a lawyer by profession, thanked his predecessor for the sterling service he has given to the club as well as the members and newly-elected committee for the faith shown in him.
He promised that, together with his team, he will be working relentlessly to restore Sliema to their former glory after a somewhat difficult period.
At the club’s AGM, Gatt was named honorary president after a unanimous vote among those present in recognition of a lifetime service to the club in various roles, not least as a player, first-team coach and eventually president.
Sliema ASC members also expressed their immense gratitude to Malcolm Gatt, the club’s treasurer who is stepping down after 28 years.
“The new committee has already started working in full force in preparation for the long season ahead,” the club statement said.
