The exhibition, which opened on October 1 and closes this evening, features related pictures and information about this milestone movie, which this year celebrates its 86th anniversary since premiering in New York on October 6, 1927.

Besides the exhibition, the society will also be holding its annual gathering today week at St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral’s church hall in Old Theatre Street, Valletta.

The gathering starts at 4.45pm and will feature documentaries and other interesting footage about the legendary minstrel Jolson. Entrance is free.

A Mass dedicated to Al Jolson will also be held on October 23 at 8am at St Francis church in Republic Street, Valletta.

On November 10 (Remembrance Day), the society will again take part in the commemorative ceremonies to mark Jolson’s role in entertaining Allied Forces during both world wars.
