For years the suffering of the karozzin horses has been the shame of Malta. The majority of tourists who come to Malta are animal-caring . Their anguish upon seeing these horses without shade or water leads them to consider our country as a land of low animal welfare values and one which needs to be shunned!
We all lived in hope when we learned that the Animal Rights Coalition was working to achieve what these animals deserve – their right to shelters, water points and drain facilities to ensure they can rest away from the scorching sun, a wait which would balance the short trips they are seen to plod while taking the less caring tourists around.
If the authorities will not get these horses off the road because they are considered a “tourist attraction” the least they can do is ensure they provide the above and also enforce better animal welfare laws.
The authorities publicly promised that all would be in place before now. So who is dilly dallying here?
