With regard to the forthcoming International Boat Show being held at Boilers’ Wharf or Boiler’s Wharf (both have been used), the quay originally comprised Gun Mounting Wharf and Boiler Wharf as indicated on this map from the 1920s.

Boiler Wharf was named after the huge boiler house with high chimney stacks shown in the photograph. The building was destroyed during the Second World War.

There was a second, smaller boiler house to the north of the main building. After the war, Gun Mounting Wharf was dropped and the entire quay was known as Boiler Wharf.
