I refer to the article entitled ‘Sing because it is a great stress reliever’ (August 17). May I point out some inaccuracies arising from this being a telephone interview while I was going about other business.
I was not and never claimed to be a founding member. St Paul’s Choral Society was founded by Hugo and Cecilia Agius Muscat. I said I was a “founder member” meaning that, among some 20 others, I had been enrolled to sing in the first concert.
This is an important definition, especially to the Agius-Muscats.
I would never use the word “damn” in any interview, so the phrase “damn mobile phones” was clearly a misunderstanding, no doubt due to the difficulty of interviewing “on the hoof”.
Although I stand by the phrase “anyone can sing”, which is true, I have been asked to emphasise, quite rightly, and to avoid misunderstanding, that membership of SPCS requires passing an audition to ensure the high standards needed to be a member. This does not constitute personal critcism of the reporter. As a fellow journalist, I am aware of the difficulties of phone interviews.
