Following the retirement of senior partner Joseph Schembri on October 1, KPMG Malta have unanimously appointed Tonio Zarb seniorpartner.
Mr Schembri will continue to act as an audit partner until his retirement from the firm.
Mr Zarb first joined the firm in 1979 as a manager responsible for providing accounting and advisory services. After a three-year period working in Belgium, he rejoined the firm as a partner in 1989 to lead the firm’s advisory function. A three-man team has since then grown to a fully fledged advisory function that includes 35 professionals, including six engagement leaders.
Mr Zarb is currently the firm’s head of advisory and for the past three years has also acted as managing partner, assisting the senior partner. He served as president of the Institute of Accountants and still sits on the Institute’s council and its ethics committee. He was a member of council of the European Federation of Accountants and of the Accountancy Board. He also served as president of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners.
“The firm will be in excellent hands under Tonio’s leadership leading to further growth and success both in the short and longer term,” Mr Schembri said in amessage to all staff at KPMG.
