Meriam Ibrahim, a pregnant mother, is locked up and shackled in a Sudanese prison cell after she was sentenced to death for her Christian faith. Her 18-month old son is with her, to make sure he does not stay with his Catholic father and is educated as a Muslim.

The Islamic court that condemned her will allow her to deliver and nurse her child before she is given 100 lashes for having married a Christian man, whereby she was judged by the court to have committed adultery, and then hanged.

Born to a Muslim father, and so considered Muslim, she was raised solely by her Christian mother.
