As part of celebrations marking its 50th anniversary, the Victoria Scout Group recently organised a church parade and a thanksgiving Mass at the Gozo Cathedral. The Ħamrun Scouts band led the parade.

Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Emeritus Joseph Mercieca. Special guests for the occasion were Gozo Minister Anton Refalo, Chief Scout Arthur Azzopardi, Chief Commissioner Leslie Bonnici, Assistant Commissioner for Administration Joseph Borg and former Chief Scouts James Rizzo and Vincent Cassar. During Mass, Group Scout Leader Lorrie Saliba and the scouts reaffirmed the scout promise and Saliba presented a memento to the archpriest Joseph Farrugia.

Back at scouts’ headquarters, the Minister unveiled a commemorative plaque and Mgr Mercieca blessed it.

The Thanks Badge was presented to three group council members, Celine Portelli, Raymond Caruana and John Xerri. A reception for all those present then followed.
