A concert titled The Romantic Violin, featuring violinist Salvatore Accardo, will be held today at 8pm at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.

This event forms part of the Malta International Music Festival, which runs until Tuesday.

Accardo will be accompanied by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sergey Smbatyan.

Having established himself as a successful conductor, chamber musician and teacher, Accardo is considered to be one of the most accomplished and influential musicians of his generation.

Among other works, today he will be playing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64.

Also as part of the Malta International Music Festival, the Trio Khachaturyan, featuring Karen Shahgaldyan on violin, Armine Grigoryan on piano and Karen Kocharyan on cello, will play tomorrow at 8pm at the Robert Samut Hall, Floriana.

The festival also included the Malta International Piano Competition, which saw the participation of 70 pianists. The finale is being held tomorrow between 1 and 6pm as part of the festival.
