In days gone by, when the wellbeing of people was a priority, roof rain water was ducted to the obligatory well. As time went by, and the human being was no longer considered a priority, roof water was no longer ducted to a well but to a front pipe leading to ground level. The well was replaced by the very lucrative underground garage.
This water began to be discharged on the pavement and, of course, people, who now are not considered a priority, have to walk into the water coming out of these drainpipes when it rains.
Considering that by today’s standards, architects only consider their fee, and the planning authority has no time to look into such frivolities, we will soon get to a stage when pedestrians have to walk in the middle of the street, just because the builder cannot be bothered to dig a trench in the pavement and lay a four-inch pipe to take the water into the street and not into the pedestrian’s shoes.
