This question, which has been raging since the time of the ancient Greeks, is the focus of the next Malta Café Scientifique taking place this evening in Valletta.

Through a philosophical play with thought experiments, the organisers aim to settle the issue once and for all. Thought experiments are made up of imaginary situations where questions are posed around contradictions on how we think about the world.

Most thought experiments are based on our values and existence and are meant to remain riddles. Those that challenge our logic tend to be solved throughout the course of history. Thanks to the philosophy of language, today it is finally possible to unravel the chicken and egg dispute.

Guest speaker for this Café is Stefano Gualeni from the Institute of Digital Games at the University of Malta.

■ Organised by Spazju Kreattiv, the discussion starts at 7.30pm at the cinema of St James Cavalier. It will take place in English and entrance is free. For more information, visit kreattivita.org. The event is being held in collaboration with the STEAM project funded by the Erasmus+ Key Action 2 Strategic Partnership, the University of Malta and the Malta Chamber of Scientists.
