Abdelkarim Nafti will be extending his career in Maltese football by another year after agreeing to play for Balzan in the BOV Premier League in the new season starting this weekend.
Nafti, 35, parted ways with Valletta in June. The Tunisian winger helped the Citizens win the championship last season but decided to move elsewhere after three years in City’s white shirt.
He was linked with a move to Sliema Wanderers this summer but Balzan won the race for his signature.
Balzan also announced that Brazilian striker Alan da Silva Souza will be rejoining the club after having played the second part of the previous campaign with them.
Balzan president Anton Tagliaferro said the signing of Da Silva Souza and Nafti represent two key additions to coach Oliver Spiteri’s squad.
“They will give us extra depth and options, for sure,” Taglia-ferro said in a statement.
“We are optimistic that both players will contribute strongly to what is already a good squad that performed so well in pre-season and in our Europa League matches.”
Balzan were eliminated from the opening round of the Europa League by Azeri side FK Neftchi Baku 3-2 on aggregate, in July.
Spiteri’s team start their Premier League campaign with a match against Mosta at the Hibs Stadium, on Saturday.
