A 500 kilo German World War II bomb was unearthed during excavation works in Paola and removed from the site yesterday morning.

The Armed Forces of Malta’s explosive ordnance disposal unit transported the bomb from the Corradino industrial estate to its depot in Manoel Island, with a police escort clearing the road. The bomb was found on Monday during work at a paint factory. It was located not far away from the football ground of the Malta College for Arts, Science and Technology where another WWII bomb was found in December, leading to the evacuation of the college until it was safely removed.

Corradino was hit by many bombs during the war because of its proximity to the dockyard and the airport.
