The situation of the main square and the surrounding streets at Xagħra has become of great concern to residents and visitors.

The area faces important challenges, such as the need for serious traffic management and parking bays, the disorderly placing of tables and chairs by restaurants and bars on public space, the indiscipline of some drivers, poor management during cultural and social activities organised in the square, the ever-increasing rumours of drug trafficking and the lack of presence of wardens and police officers to keep control.

The need for a serious study on the matter and for consequent action has been felt for quite a long time, but complaints have often fallen on deaf ears.

Seeing that the situation cannot be tolerated anymore, the Nationalist Party representatives on the Xagħra local council moved a resolution on this issue at a meeting held on November 27. Gladly, the resolution was approved unanimously by the whole council, but this is only the beginning.

Now, the Xagħra council has to act. So must the authorities responsible for transport, tourism and planning and the police force are all expected to cooperate with the council and provide their expertise.  This is a duty owed to the village of Xagħra, its residents and its visitors and the dragging of feet to resolve the matter cannot be permitted any longer.
