Entrepreneur and construction magnate Anġlu Xuereb has launched his autobiography, Angelo, which encourages budding entrepreneurs not to lose hope when faced with challenges.

During the launch yesterday, Mr Xuereb said there were three reasons why he had written it now.

Firstly, because he had no idea when he would retire, because some of the “most important experiences” in his life were “still extremely vivid” and, thirdly, because he wanted his experiences and successes to be an inspiration to young entrepreneurs.

The autobiography, released on his 60th birthday, includes the endorsement of lateral-thinking pioneer Edward de Bono, Judge Joseph Galea Debono, President Emeritus Ugo Mifsud Bonnici and Chief Justice Emeritus John J. Cremona, who also served as vice-president of the European Court of Human Rights. “Undoubtedly, what spurred me on in my career is the satisfaction of overcoming challenges because I believe the bigger the challenge, the stronger and the more satisfaction I got. I have always cherished Winston Churchill’s words of wisdom that ‘kites fly highest against the wind, not with it’,” Mr Xuereb said.

In the chapter dedicated to the fatal stabbing of his son-in-law, Duncan Zammit, Mr Xuereb expands on the love between his daughter, Claire, and her late husband, whom he describes as a “hero” that died fighting to save his wife and twins.

The book was edited by Charles Micallef St John. It was published by the UK-based Book Guild Publishing, an independent publishing house, and all the proceeds will be donated to charity.
