Video interviews of people talking about their careers, talents and social life are being featured on The Zone at www.timesofmalta.com/thezone. Tomorrow, a new interview will be uploaded with digital and board games designer, creator and PhD research student Daniel Vella, held in collaboration with the University’s scientific magazine Think.
Vella is dedicated to building an extensive body of literature that explains the various virtual environments and characters in video games to understand the complex cultural environments players enter, experience and experiment with once they begin to play video games.
His focus is on the games themselves, while his interests are mainly the study of the aesthetic possibilities of immersion in virtual environments and the constructed subject-positions of players within the game world.
As he nears the end of his PhD with the IT University of Copenhagen, Vella says his innovative and challenging work will open up many opportunities for other disciplines, including the video games industry.
