I refer to Alfred Sant's contribution to your paper (April 2). So, for Dr Sant coherence means telling the people in his 1998 electoral programme to elect him. Then he would implement a free trade zone and then hold a referendum to see if people wanted him to continue along that line or go for full membership of the EU.
The people did not elect him.
Coherence means telling the people in 2003 to elect him so he can, in the next legislature, negotiate a "partnership" agreement with the EU and then ask them in a referendum to choose between "partnership" and "membership" of the EU.
That is coherence.
For years Eddie Fenech Adami told the people that if elected he would work for membership of the EU. The people elected him in 1987, in 1992 and in 1998. Negotiations with the EU were successfully concluded.
In 2003, Dr Fenech Adami goes to the people with a negotiated package for membership of the EU, a clear policy for Malta's future, one that takes into consideration every single aspect of the country's needs. That is tunnel vision, according to Dr Sant.
Does Dr Sant know that one about a bird in the hand being worth two in the bush?
