Following up the 2004 Conference on "The Value of a Constitution for Europe", the European Documentation and Research Centre of the University, in combination with the Jean Monnet Chair and the Malta European Studies Association, is organising a conference titled: "The Constitution for Europe: What does it Mean?" on April 7 at Corinthia San Gorg Hotel.

The main questions that will be discussed include: How will the European institutions change? What role for our Parliament and our Ombudsman? What about our neutrality? What does "supremacy of Union law" mean? What about fundamental rights?

Expert overseas and Maltese speakers answer these and other questions in the run-up to ratification of the Treaty by Parliament, scheduled for July. The welcoming address will be delivered by the chairman of EDRC, Professor Peter Xuereb, at 2 p.m.

Registration may be accessed at www.um.edu.mt/noticeboard/edrcconf.doc and addressed to Communication Officer EDRC at the University.

For further details call 2340-2136 or e-mail edrc@um.edu.mt.
