The Helping Hands Foundation has donated Lm27,000 to ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija of Marsascala.
The funds were raised from the sale of a booklet featuring puzzles, crosswords, word search games and educational material. HHF is a direct sales company selling such booklets with the main objective being the raising of funds for charities.
Having completed its first campaign, the foundation has now embarked on a project to help another two institutions - Caritas Malta and the Association for Abandoned Animals.
The initiative to sell such booklets for charity came from Harry Kozub of Poland who passed on the idea to Nadia Vella Cappello of HHF.
This system has been used in that country for many years and was introduced here last summer.
It consists mainly in the sales of a booklet by a group of persons who travel from town to town promoting a particular charity organisation and selling the booklet for Lm1.50.
After the first month of sales, Ms Vella Cappello presented a cheque for Lm2,000 to Nathan Farrugia, chief executive of ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija.
The sales, however, went on at a brisk pace and a second edition of the booklet was printed. It was decided that the proceeds which in the end totalled Lm27,000 from this second edition would go to the same charity.
Mr Vella Cappello created, designed and co-ordinated the sale of the booklet.
