A Portuguese experience

The F.X. Attard Boys Secondary School, Marsa, is participating in the Comenius 1 project "Show Me Your World" with schools in Romania, Italy, Portugal, Norway, Finland and Holland. The project is passing on the identity of each country through topics focusing on culture, traditions, climates, famous people, festivals and celebrations.

Between April 20 and 25 two teachers together with three students from the school had the opportunity to meet teachers and students from all the participant countries for the fourth project meeting, in the host country, Portugal.

Throughout these five days the teachers became familiar with the Portuguese educational system and with their teaching methodology. They evaluated the development of the project, and the organisation of the next projects and project meetings.

They collaborated with the Portuguese teachers and host families so that the project could be implemented successfully in the school curriculum. Living as the Portuguese do facilitated the development of stronger bonds with the other students and their families and the enhancement of intercultural communication competence.

This was a very good opportunity for students and teachers to share their identities and actually become one whole multi-cultural group, where despite differences, commonalities ruled.
