Soon, on May 1, his big dream will come true and Malta will join the European family called European Community or European Union. It has been a long and hard fight to convince the majority of the people and to transport his vision of a united Europe where Malta also has a role to play.
Dr Fenech Adami - this name stands for development and progress. Dr Fenech Adami has always set the priorities on Malta and its future.
To many people he is the nice grandfather who cares very much about his grandchildren and that they will have a good and safe life, as his policies over the past decades would prove.
What is wrong in accepting cuts and inconveniences and even some suffering now in order to build up a better life for the following generations?
There are very few big politicians in Europe who had/have such a vision for a better future. Two of them were Charles De Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer, who ended centuries of rivalry and wars between the biggest nations in Europe to form a better and peaceful community for the next generations.
In Germany it is my generation (I was born in 1978) who must be thankful most for what we have reached. In Malta it will be the generation of Dr Fenech Adami's grandsons who will then, in maybe 40 years' time, review the situation and, like me, realise what a great personality Dr Fenech Adami was.
