A week for bonds

Total Malta Government Stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of Lm691,600 being traded in 108 deals over 20 different stocks. Trading over the week in corporate bonds was made up of a total value of Lm252,593.

Trading in HSBC shares opened at Lm6.685 on Monday and went down to close the week's trading at Lm6.60 on Thursday. Total turnover for the week amounted to 30,170 shares changing hands over the week in 17 deals. At the close of the business on Thursday, best bids for 100 shares at Lm6.50 and best offers of 625 shares at Lm6.63 remained outstanding.

Bank of Valletta shares witnessed a decrease of 1.2 per cent during the week after Tuesday's trading session opened at Lm3.34, while yesterday's session closed at Lm3.299. A total of 46,080 shares changed hands, over 10 deals; 1,500 shares at Lm3.26 and 525 shares at Lm3.299 were the best unsatisfied bids and offers respectively after yesterday's session came to a close.

Maltacom shares opened at Lm1.40 on Monday and closed the week's trading at the same price yesterday. During the week the price ranged between Lm1.36 and Lm1.42. Total turnover for the week amounted to 29,748 shares changing hands over 24 deals. At the close of business yesterday, best bids for 1,500 shares at Lm1.395 and best offers of 2,300 shares at Lm1.42 remained outstanding.

First International Merchants Bank shares opened at USD1.001 and closed the week at USD1.10 on Thursday. Total turnover for the week amounted to 67,174 shares changing hands over four deals. At the close of business yesterday, best bids for 950 shares at USD1.050 and best offers of 35,000 shares at USD1.060 remained outstanding.

The Malta Stock Exchange Share Index decreased by 37.612 points or 1.4 per cent over the week and now stands at 2,566.723.
