Abela sets out campaign vision at Labour’s opening rally in Żejtun
Labour will unveil electoral promises every day
Robert Abela set out his campaign vision as Labour held its first election campaign rally, in Zejtun, on Tuesday.
“This will be a campaign to answer your dreams. We are full of ideas for the future,” he said, echoing the campaign slogan “Your dream. Our project.”
He repeated promises announced earlier on Tuesday, including interest-free loans covering up to 25 per cent of a residential property’s value and extensions to maternity, paternity and parental leave.
He told the enthusiastic crowd that further proposals would be announced in the coming days.
“Tomorrow we will have more proposals and the day after that and the day after that,” he said.
Among the measures that drew the strongest reaction from the crowd were plans to increase the birth bonus to €5,000 per child, and further beef up pensions.
“We got this far, but we aren’t ready to stop. There is so much more we can do,” Abela said.
Recent years had been characterised by record after record in the economy and in social measures. These included the largest tax cuts in history, increases in children’s allowance, and investment in green and open spaces,he said.
The strength of our country was built on the strength of all its people, and the government would therefore continue to be a support and shield for Maltese and Gozitan families, especially at important moments in life.
