Abela tours Gozo hospital and is briefed on new investment

Sensitive medicines to be delivered to the hospital by drones

The prime minister was briefed about new investment at Gozo's hospital when he visited the facility on Monday.

The government in a statement said the hospital is undergoing an extensive programme that will transform and modernise it.

An MRI machine was insalled almost two years ago, followed by a CT scanner, a 3D mammography machine and other equipment. The cardio-respiratory section is being enlarged, as is the outpatients department, while the hospital lab is being modernised.

The hospital is getting a new helipad and there will be an area to handle drones, which will deliver chemotherapy and other sensitive medicines.

Abela met the staff and remarked that this was the biggest investment ever in Gozo's hospital so that people in Gozo could receive the same level of care as in Malta.
