Abigail Camilleri ‘closes political chapter’ after not getting re-elected

The Labour candidate was elected in 2022 through the gender corrective mechanism

Former Labour MP Abigail Camilleri is bowing out of politics after she failed to get elected in the 2026 general election.

Camilleri posted on Facebook on Monday saying her political journey ends here.

“I look back with a sense of pride. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to those who believed in me and supported me in this journey,” she said.

Abigail Camilleri was one of six Labour Party candidates to be elected to parliament through the gender corrective mechanism in 2022.

During her time in parliament, she served on the education and petitions parliamentary committees, as well as the standing committee on IT and AI affairs.

She also chaired the Gozo affairs committee.

In 2022, Camilleri received 394 first-count votes. She improved her tally marginally on Sunday, receiving 482 votes on the 1st count.
