Joseph Portelli, 47 of Zebbug, Gozo, was arraigned in court in Victoria yesterday and accused of the attempted murder of Franky Cini.

Inspectors Antonello Grech and Chris Pullicino accused Portelli of having fired a firearm in Cini's direction, causing him grievous injuries last Monday.

He was also accused of having threatened several other persons.

The prosecution also accused Portelli of having a firearm in his possession without a licence, disturbing the public peace and firing a firearm in a residential area.

Magistrate Paul Coppini refused bail. Dr Emanuel Mallia assisted Portelli. Dr Toni Abela and Dr Georgina Scicluna Bajada appeared in parte civile.
