A Sliema man was yesterday charged with making use of counterfeit money at several petrol stations.

Carmel Xerri, 53, pleaded not guilty to the possession of counterfeit money, defrauding Carlo Cini Service Station and other stations of less than Lm100 and stealing fuel on and before February 28, 2005.

Magistrate Dennis Montebello granted Xerri bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.

Police Inspector Joseph Abdilla prosecuted.

Dr Franco Debono appeared for Xerri.
