Activists protest over Gaza genocide ahead of Israeli team's match in Malta
Maccabi Tel Aviv are playing Hamrun Spartans
A group of activists held a protest against Israel on Tuesday ahead of the Hamrun Spartans match against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The match, in the second qualifying round of the Europa League, is being played at the Tony Bezzina Stadium in Corradino.
Police took special precautions, mounting a roadblock some distance away from the stadium, where the activists were stopped.
The activists flew Palestinian flags and shouted slogans against Israel and genocide in Gaza. They called for a free Palestine and an end to Israeli occupation. One placard called for Israeli football teams to be banned from international matches.
A large Palestinian flag was also draped over the Senglea bastions and was visible from Corradino.
