Alternattiva Demokratika will be organising an activity in the near future in aid of world peace and against military intervention in Iraq.

"We are calling on the Maltese government and the opposition to make it clear that Malta is opposed to war in Iraq because the victims of the war will be Iraqi civilians," AD's international secretary, Ralph Cassar said in a statement.

"The war could also deal a fatal blow to any prospect of peace in the Middle East and could fuel terrorism and fundamentalism. It is ironic that instead of creating bridges between the Palestinians and the Israelis, the US government is bent on destabilising the entire Middle East region, through a war which is also opposed by moderate Arab governments".

The statement also expressed AD's support for a UN resolution calling for the return of UN inspectors in Iraq.
