Alternattiva Demokratika today called for the better management of Malta’s valleys, such as the popular Chadwick Lakes, to ensure the protection of the natural flora and fauna.

Party leader Harry Vassallo said that the area of Chadwick Lakes, or Wied Qlejja, was in an abandoned state and apart from indigenous plant species there were invasive species that were competing with typical Maltese flora.

Speaking during a press conference at Chadwick Lakes Dr Vassallo explained that AD was insisting for better management of such areas to safeguard diversity, ensure a better understanding of Malta’s environment, ensure that future generations enjoyed this environment and abided by EU regulations.

Earlier in the day, Dr Vassallo held a press conference in Gozo where he said that AD in a coalition would put an end to clientelism. He underlined AD's proposals for Gozo, including a better transport system for the island.
