Alternattiva Demokratika has called for a serious reform of the country's public transport system.
The postponement of the installation of bus ticketing machines and a recent accident involving an elderly passenger were indicative of the degeneration of the system, it said in a statement.
AD is in favour of the liberalisation of this sector so that the consumer would have more choice.
It expressed its concern about the indiscipline prevailing in the public transport system.
"The case of an elderly tourist who was seriously injured when a bus hit a centre strip, should serve as a mind opener. The fact that the passenger involved was standing in front of the exit of this bus highlights the lack of safety on buses. The exits of all buses should be kept closed at all times, except when passengers are boarding or stepping out from the bus. The safety of commuters should be given priority. Unfortunately this is not the case because a large number of buses are obsolete".
