Alternattiva Demokratika has submitted an official objection to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority against development at Il-Pjazzetta, in Sliema.

A Mepa public meeting on the proposed development is due to be held soon. AD is opposing the application to develop the open site in front of Ghar il-Lembi Street and the site of the naval clinic on the grounds that it would have a negative impact on Sliema residents' quality of life.

"The naval clinic is designated as a grade 2 scheduled property. This designation precludes the developer from knocking down the façade of the building," AD said.

"Despite the architectural value of this building, it has already been partly demolished. The demolition of this building runs counter to structure plan policy. AD believes that this building should be restored."

It said it will continue to work, through its representative on the Sliema local council, Michael Briguglio, to defend the quality of life of Sliema residents.
