A 27-year-old unemployed drug addict was caught red handed trying to steal a car stereo worth €200 to fuel his drug habit, a court heard yesterday.
Kevin Camilleri from Sliema admitted to trying to steal the stereo and damaging the car on Thursday at about 1.30 p.m. He, however, decided to contest the charge of relapsing.
Police Inspector Joseph Mercieca said Mr Camilleri was caught red handed and had already spent nine months in prison on other charges. The accused, he said, had been given a number of chances but did not learn any lessons from his previous convictions.
Magistrate Lawrence Quintano remanded Mr Camilleri in custody and recommended that the prison authorities allow him to get treatment for his drug addiction.
