Aid given by the government to Gozitan students in Malta is to reach €400 every three months of the academic year and all post secondary students - and not just those at University - are eligible for it, the Ministry for Gozo said.

The measure was first announced in the Budget and is separate from the stipend.

The ministry said this is compensation for the expenses which parents and students needed to meet and also an incentive for more young people to continue studying.

Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono said the process of application has also been facilitated. The application form, to be filled at the beginning of the scholastic year, can be found at  www.gozo.gov.mt . Students do not need to present ferry tickets.

There are 1,035 Gozitan students following post-secondary courses in Malta, twice as much as a decade ago.
