Advanced PET CT scanners for cancer patients at Mater Dei Hospital

New technology cuts down scanning time from 20 to 12 minutes

One of two PET Ct scanners planned for Mater Dei Hospital has started being used for the diagnosis and continuous assessment of cancer in patients. 

The health and EU funds ministries said in a statement that the EU-funded scanner runs on technology that is four times more precise and sensitive than previous systems.

The scanner can also be used by obese patients and cuts down the scanning time from 20 to 12 minutes.

This means that 20 patients can be scanned every day.
