AFM evacuates woman from ship

The Armed Forces of Malta evacuated a woman from on board a Ukraine-registered cargo vessel on Friday night.

The vessel, Radomysal, was 60 nautical miles northwest of Malta when she first requested assistance through Malta Radio, the AFM said.

An Italian Military Mission AB212 helicopter was dispatched to winch the 33-year-old woman off the ship. The attempt, however, failed due to winching problems.

Rescue boat, Melita II, was then dispatched to meet the Radomysal when it was 19 nautical miles off Malta, the AFM said.

The patient was taken to the Malta Maritime Base Haywharf from where she was transported to St Luke's Hospital for treatment.
