AFM warns of scam requests for transport payments
One fake request demanded €3,000 for military jet flight from Ukraine to Malta
The Armed Forces of Malta has warned about scam requests for payments for transportation services allegedly using AFM assets.
In a social media post on Friday, the AFM issued a rare alert to the public about “fraudulent requests for payment for transportation services allegedly provided using AFM air or maritime assets”.
The AFM said these scams often involve fake “official” AFM mission reports that falsely claim payment is required for transportation services.
“Such documents are entirely fraudulent and the transportation services they refer to never took place,” the AFM said.
One such example displayed by the AFM showed a payment “request” for €3,000 for a military jet that departed from Ukraine on June 23, 2026 to Malta.
The fake report includes a mission summary stating that the flight was piloted by “Captain Taras and First Officer Volodymyr” and the passengers included “Yurii Kochevenko”.
LinkedIn lists a person by that name as the founder of the International Center for Countering Russian Propaganda.
The fake payment request states that if the €3,000 is not paid “the passenger will not be allowed to leave the base”.
The AFM urged the public to ignore such requests and to report the incident to their local police station.
