The Office of the Attorney General has ceased to be a government department and is now an autonomous structure called the Attorney General Agency.

The agency is expected to work with a structure similar to that adopted by law firms, in order to be in a position to provide a better service. It will be divided into various sections, including an EU Unit and an International Unit.

As a result of an agreement signed by Justice and Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg and Attorney General Silvio Camilleri yesterday, the government allocated an additional Lm580,000 over and above the usual yearly budget.

The agency will now have a budget of Lm1,022,672.
