Sixteen-year-old Neptunes' swimmer Neil Agius last night shattered his own 1,500 metres free-style national record by over 16 seconds when he clocked 17 mins 05.15 secs in an international meet in Lisbon, Portugal.

Agius' previous mark stood at 17 mins 21.35 secs, set earlier this year. This meeting is serving the Maltese competitors to tune up for the forthcoming GSSE to be held in Malta early next month.
