Birkirkara's ladies' team ensured a glorious finish to season 2002-03 for their club by emulating their male counterparts in winning the Knock-Out competition at the expense of champions Hibernians.

Eleonora Agliano scored the all-important goal in extra-time on an afternoon when Birkirkara's men's team, spearheaded by coach Stephen Azzopardi, rounded off their season by lifting the Super Cup after defeating champions Sliema 2-0.

Hibernians were the livelier side in the first half but Tereza Zammit missed two good scoring opportunities in the 12th and 20th minutes.

Play during the second half was more balanced with both sides creating a handful of scoring chances. On two occasions, Agliano shot wide from inviting positions whereas Hibs' players Joanne Vella and Tessie Agius fashioned shots that were parried by Birkirkara goalkeeper Dimech.

The best chance of the game fell at the feet of Dorianne Theuma who, in the 55th minute, steered clear of Dimech but shot against the post in front of a gaping goal.

Caution was the order of the day for most of the extra-time although Theuma may have atoned for her earlier miss but her shot flashed against the side-rigging.

In the 88th minute, a defensive error by Hibs proved costly, resulting in the decisive goal that enabled Birkirkara to retain the cup.

Birkirkara's Pisani recovered possession before passing to Agliano who beat Hibs' goalkeeper Zahra with a low drive for her side's winning goal.

At the end of the match, Rebecca D'Agostino was presented with the KO trophy by Malta FA vice-president John Farrugia amidst the cheering of the Birkirkara fans.
