Gas distributors will have a bigger supply of cylinders at the Luxol Grounds this morning.
The director general of the Malta Chamber of Small Enterprises - GRTU, Vince Farrugia said yesterday steps were being taken to make up for the shortages until a consignment of new gas cylinders arrives on Friday.
Mr Farrugia said that besides the door-to-door deliveries, distributors took it in turns every Saturday to make cylinders available from the Luxol Grounds; near the Addolorata Cemetery and Burmarrad.
Demand for gas, he said, recently increased due to a number of factors including a shortage of cyclinders, a shift in demand from paraffin to gas and the cold weather.
Mr Farrugia said that following an agreement between Enemalta and the distributors, more trucks will be delivering gas cylinders to Luxol today to provide a bigger supply.
Several readers from Sliema have complained that no gas deliveries were made in their area for the past month.
An elderly woman said it was impossible for her to collect her gas from Luxol Grounds or any another area because she lived on her own and did not have transport.
An Enemalta spokesman said yesterday the new gas cylinders would arrive on Friday.
