Agricultural weather data now available on the Met Office website
The new service is aimed at helping farmers
Agricultural weather information is now available through the Met Office website, the agriculture ministry announced Tuesday.
In a statement, the ministry said 12 agrometeorological stations had been installed across the country, “to ensure wide geographical coverage of the climatic conditions that directly affect agriculture”.
Data collected by the stations is analyed by the ministry’s Directorate for Research and Advisory Services (RASD), before being made available on the Met Office website, it said.
The website now features a button allowing users to toggle between standard Met Office weather station data and that provided by the 12 agricultural stations.
Additional data available includes "leaf wetness" and information about soil temperature and humidity.
Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo said the move would provide “precise, real-time information that helps farmers take more informed decisions on the management of their fields”.
